Finding a first job is the goal of many people who have finished their studies. They hope that their knowledge and qualifications will be useful and will help them to earn a reasonable salary. Without a job, it is difficult to establish financial independence and this can affect the individual's general outlook and social situation. In the worst case, lack of a job can lead to deeper economic and psychological problems.

A first job is a special life experience, a test of personal creativity, diligence and the usefulness of one's qualifications. It is also a vital test - in personal and professional terms - of resourcefulness. Good experiences in the first job are extremely important in helping an individual to enter to an adult, independent life.

A diploma of graduation from college does not guarantee anyone a job for obvious reasons, as it only proves abilities in terms of the learning and knowledge acquired. But for a job, other skills that show resourcefulness and emotional maturity are just as important: for example, assertiveness, presentation and communication skills, abilities of dealing with stress, keeping a positive outlook and determination.

The CAREERS OFFICE of the Upper Silesian Academy of Enterprise has been established to give students help with the difficult process of entering the labor market.

The USAE careers office offers a wide range of facilities for students, graduates and employers.

The Careers Office of the Upper Silesian Academy of Enterprise participates in many organized workshops and with meetings with employers

One of the many organized workshops on entering the labor market is series of meetings aimed at assessing the most suitable opportunities for"MY CAREER" and preparation for application process that boosts the chance of getting that vital first job.

This series of studies is aimed mainly at USAE students in the final year of daytime or extramural studies.

Participants in this series of workshops will benefit from the knowledge and experiences of academic teachers but also various key business partners - headhunters, heads of small businesses and staff from job offices.

The program of workshop is realized in two themed modules:

1. PREPARATION
   
   
   • SELF-ASSESSMENT - base and ways to develop a professional career; presentation and method of development of self-esteem.
   • About methods of dealing with STRESS.
   • About ASSERTIVENESS in contacting employers.
   • About manners of JOB SEARCHES.
2. PARTICIPATION IN APPLICATION PROCESS
   
   
   • About structure of interviews.
   • About manners and preparation for interviews.
   • About principles of behavior in interview.
   • About negotiations for salary and other working terms.

Reference books for persons setting up and running a business.

Ministry of Economy and Work in May 2005 year has declared four edition of competition on development of academic activity in Career Office. This was a venture realized as part of program "First Work". Through this scheme the Upper Silesian Academy of Enterprise Careers Office received funding to help set-up facilities in Chorzow for a library of reference book and other resources related to personal business development.
